TO CONSTRUCT YOUR OWN LANDSCAPE:
1) Select a circumstance plate and slide it into one of the back slots of the viewing block. Consult the back of the box lid, containing a copy of “The Various Species of Landscape &c. in Nature” to coordinate the circumstance number with the description.
2) Select one or two each of both composition and object plates and slide them into the viewing block. Different depth slots are provided so that if a plate is taller, it may be placed in deeper slot so as not to block a shorter plate behind it.
3) Light accordingly and view from a low angle for the best perspective of your landscape.
The drawing from which the image comes is indicated in the lower-right hand corner of all plates. Plates are extracted from paintings by Alexander Cozens.
